About CancerLinks
What is CancerLinks?
CancerLinks (originally Oxford Cancer Information) is a cancer information website which aims to help cancer patients, their friends, families and carers find high quality information about cancer and it's treatment. We have also produced some generic information for many sections in the site to start you on your journey through the internet.
Why was CancerLinks created?
There is a huge amount of cancer information available on the internet which can be overwhelming. Lots of patients and carers have commented about the difficulties they have finding information on the internet about cancer and its treatment.
There are over 210 million links displayed for "cancer" using a popular search engine (Google) and even if you have a more detailed search like "breast cancer treatment" there are still over 19 million hits. A large number of these websites are unregulated and may mis- inform their visitors. It can be difficult to tell which sites are the ones which you can trust.
All external websites linked to from CancerLinks have been have been quality assessed. For details of how we do this please visit our How do we choose which sites to link to? section.
One user described this website as "like having a big sister to guide me to the right place".

Who is behind CancerLinks?
CancerLinks was created by a team of healthcare professionals, patients and carers at Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust. In 2009 the content of the site was offered to other NHS Trusts within the Thames Valley Cancer Network to create "sister sites" under the name of CancerLinks. The core content of the site is shared across the Network and is reviewed on a regular basis by representatives from the hospital trusts involved. You can find out more about the people involved by visiting our Who are CancerLinks? section.
